AGL’S controversial plan to float a gas terminal off Crib Point will put under the microscope, says Premier Daniel Andrews.
“We will rigorously assess the merits of this — the environmental impacts,” he said.
“It will be done fairly.”
Mr Andrews made the comments on radio during a discussion with opponent Louise Page, who accused the government of fast-tracking the project.

Flinders federal MP Greg Hunt, whose electorate includes Crib Point, said the area was not suitable for industrial development.
“This applies to all such proposals,” Mr Hunt said.
“Crib Point has become a residential community over the last few decades and it has long been my view that it should not be reindustrialised.”
Hastings state MP Neale Burgess said Crib Point had waited decades to flourish without the “weight of industrialisation”.
“It is time that was allowed to happen. It’s time the wishes of Crib Point residents came first,” he said.
About 100 people packed Crib Point Community House last month to attend a protest meeting.
Opponents fear the project will ruin the environment and increase the risk of fires.
