It comes at a time when bushfires are devastating Queensland, with authorities there recently arresting two men on suspicion of arson.
Victorian emergency services are also gearing up ahead of forecast high temperatures later this week.
Firefighters managed to get the Mt Martha blaze under control by 7.10pm on Saturday night, but not without the deployment of 10 tankers, four field command vehicles, two pumpers, five slip-on units and a bulldozer.
“Aerial support helitack was also provided for roughly one hour,” a CFA spokesman told the Leader.
No property was destroyed in the fire.
Police say it was fortunate no evacuations were necessary.
“The investigation remains ongoing,” a Victoria Police spokeswoman said.
