Patrick Brennan guilty to blowing 0.168 in Moorabbin Court when cops catch him drink driving
A Cranbourne fencer has called blowing more than three times the legal alcohol limit a “stupid mistake” after cops busted him behind the wheel.

A Cranbourne fencer who blew more than three times the legal limit after he was pulled over by police has evaded conviction for his “stupid decision”.
Patrick Brennan, 63, pleaded guilty in the Moorabbin Magistrates’ Court on April 8 to one count of drink driving.
The court heard Brennan was caught behind the wheel in Chelsea on November 17 last year, where he blew 0.168.
His car was immediately impounded for 30 days and his licence was suspended for 12 months.
In court on Tuesday, Brennan said he had made a “stupid decision on the night”.
“You can’t take something back once you’ve done it,” he said.
Brennan told the court he had been a fencer for 17 years and had recently become unemployed, so was undertaking volunteer work within his community, working with the Salvation Army.
Magistrate Vincenzo Caltabiano sentenced Brennan to pay a $500 fine without conviction, saying the incident was an “aberration”.
“It’s a high reading – three times the limit,” he said.
“You’d be well and truly aware of the potential danger you presented that day.
“It’s clear from the contributions you’ve made in the community, this is an aberration.”
Brennan’s licence was cancelled for 16 months, backdated to November 17 last year.
