A Pakenham family has been left traumatised after a cruel baiter poisoned their beloved pooch on three occasions, causing it to fall seriously ill and almost die.
Donna Romeril, of Pakenham, said her granddaughter Taysia’s two-year-old kelpie, Arno, had been poisoned by rat bait three times in the past six months.
Ms Romeril, who has lived at Harness Place in Pakenham, for almost a year, said the most recent incident on Monday left the family terrified, after they discovered Arno frothing at the mouth, vomiting and limping.
She said her granddaughter was left in “utter shock” after discovering lumps of meat encrusted with rat poison scattered all over their backyard and quickly rushed Arno to the Greencross Vets in Pakenham.
“Arno is so lucky to be alive — he had his stomach pumped. This is the third time he’s been baited in six months and we’re now moving house as we’re too scared to live here,” she said.
“We’ve now spent almost $2000 in vet bills and this is the second time he’s had his stomach pumped — he doesn’t deserve to go through this as he’s the most beautiful and loving boy.”
Ms Romeril said she was contacted by a former neighbour, who claimed their dog also died from baiting, after she posted a public warning on Facebook.
“We suspect we know who it is and we feel like there is someone in this area who utterly hates dogs and it’s disgusting,” she said.
“I also found out recently the former owner of our house had their dog poisoned too.”

Ms Romeril said she was now seeking justice for Arno and urged other pet owners in the area to be vigilant.
“I wouldn’t wish this ordeal upon anyone. It’s a dire warning for pet owners in the area to be careful and to report any suspicious to police,” she said.
Ms Romeril said her granddaughter had reported the previous incidents to police.
