A Melbourne dad allegedly attempted to sink a police investigation after he was banged up on suspicion of committing a $7000 extortion.
Bilal Sidani, 28, fronted Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Monday charged with multiple offences including extortion and arson.
Sidani is accused of threatening to inflict injury during the suspected extortion which allegedly occurred at Berwick on December 5 last year.
The young dad is accused of threatening to hurt the alleged victim and demanding they hand over $7000.
Sidani, who was on bail at the time of the alleged extortion, is also accused of torching a Ford Falcon ute at Berwick on November 30.
It’s alleged Sidani caused $10,000 damage after setting fire to the 2010 ute.
Sidani also allegedly attempted to have another person “speak” to the alleged extortion victim and “ask (the alleged victim) to drop criminal charges”.
Sidani, who was charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice, allegedly attempted to meddle with the police investigation while he was locked up at Fulham Correctional on December 28.
The court heard Sidani’s legal team made a plea offer which was currently under consideration by the prosecution.
Sidani, of Narre Warren South, was remanded to face court again on May 21.
