A Dandenong man and his girlfriend have landed behind bars following an alleged crime spree across Melbourne’s southeast.

Michael Allsop, 32, fronted the Dandenong Magistrates’ Court on Monday facing a stack of charges including obtain property by deception, handle stolen goods, theft from motor vehicle and criminal damage by fire.

Allsop was allegedly joined by his girlfriend for a number of the crimes, including when they allegedly stole a Nissan Navara from a Korumburra street on January 18 and when the same vehicle was allegedly destroyed by fire in Cardinia in the early hours of January 27.

A witness watched as Allsop’s girlfriend allegedly loaded items from the Navara into an SUV before the Navara went up in flames, the court heard.

On the same day the duo were photographed as they allegedly sprinted from a taxi and into a stolen Toyota Kluger.

That vehicle was allegedly found burnt in Neerim South on January 31 just minutes after a nearby resident watched as his car was allegedly stolen from his farm, the court heard.

But the chaotic couple didn’t inspect the new car they allegedly snatched, as the owner’s mobile phone — complete with a tracking software — was left inside.

The device allegedly tracked the duo straight back to Dandenong, allowing officers to close in.

Police allege that a Toyota Kluger’s owner’s manual, plastic container with stickers for number plates and assorted identification cards were found inside.

The court heard Allsop also allegedly used stolen cards to make cigarette purchases from BP Springvale, United Cheltenham and Coles Express Moorabbin on January 26.

Allsop will return to court as his bail application continues on February 12.

The woman also remains in custody.
