A tradie tragically died after being electrocuted while installing a light at a Taco Bill restaurant in Pakenham.

A tradie has died after he was electrocuted at a Taco Bill restaurant in Pakenham.

Emergency services were called to the Mexican eatery on Princes Highway around 6pm on Tuesday October 26.

It is understood the 40-year-old electrician was installing a light when he was electrocuted.

Chief executive Tom Kartel confirmed the man was an external trade contractor.

“This tragic incident has deeply shocked the Taco Bill family and we pass on our sincere condolences to his family, friends and colleagues,” he said.

WorkSafe were investigating the circumstances surrounding the death.

Energy Safe Victoria urged electricians to isolate power before starting work after preliminary inquiries indicate the man was working within the vicinity of live electrical cables.

The restaurant has been temporarily closed during lockdown and were undergoing minor renovations.

This brings the total of workplace fatalities to 46 in 2021.
