Police were lucky to escape injury after their car was rammed in Capel Sound.

The two officers were trying to stop a car seen allegedly driving erratically on Point Nepean Road about 11.55pm on Tuesday.

A purple Toyota Land cruiser then failed to navigate a left hand turn into Johnson Street and crashed into a tree.

Police pulled over the vehicle which had continued travelling along Johnson Street.

The Toyota came to a stop before allegedly reversing into the police vehicle, causing damage to both cars.

A 33-year-old Rosebud man was arrested at the scene and taken to hospital for observation.

The police members involved were uninjured.
