A SERIAL suspended driver has again been caught behind the wheel — for the ninth time.

Lucas Sami pleaded guilty to another driving charge at Frankston Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

The court heard the Frankston civil construction worker has eight previous convictions for driving while suspended.

He was caught again on December 12 last year driving without a valid licence on Frankston-Dandenong Rd in Frankston North.

He was pulled over by police and told he had been suspended on September 21 for three months.

He had eight days left to serve before he was legal again.

The court heard his eight priors related to the period between 2008 and 2011, which resulted in him spending 45 days in jail.

His defence lawyer said Sami had been living with his mother for part of last year due to her poor health.

He had not got the mail, stating he had been suspended due to too many demerit points, she said.

She said that as someone with a record for driving bans he should have been more vigilant and checked with VicRoads regarding his licence status.

Magistrate Rodney Crisp said Sami’s actions were “an insult” and he was “snubbing” road safety.

He said his behaviour was “distinctly abnormal; (he has a) huge welter of disobedience of driving orders”.

Sami was fined $1000 and given another three months off the road.
