Lisa Cragg: Rosebud mum’s angry, strange drug-fuelled crime spree

Self-medicating her PTSD with drugs, a Rosebud woman bashed a housemate, stole from a boat, attacked cars, yelled at kids and resisted arrest.

A Victoria Police officer had to draw his gun to stop a drugged-up woman from advancing on him after she had been OC sprayed three times.
A Victoria Police officer had to draw his gun to stop a drugged-up woman from advancing on him after she had been OC sprayed three times.

A hyped-up ice-abusing headkicker who bashed her former flatmate in a drug-fuelled crime spree has been told she faces a stint behind bars.

Lisa Cragg also waved a metal baton at police causing officers to draw their guns, tried to attack cars on a busy freeway and swam to a boat to try and steal items during a bizarre series of offending.

The 43-year-old Rosebud mother of three also graffitied a fence with the tag “F*** U All”, nicked a car and drove to a playground to randomly abuse parents and kids, and assaulted police officers when they arrested her.

She pleaded guilty to a plethora of assault, drugs, weapons and other charges at the Frankston Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

The court heard she attacked the man, who she used to share a Rosebud home with, in a combined assault with her partner and his brother in September last year.

She punched and kicked the victim as he lay on the ground after he had been pushed over in a dispute over her belongings being left inside the house.

The man needed treatment for cuts and soreness to his head and face after the violent assault.

Cragg also stole a car in October 2020 from outside a Rye milk bar, which was later seen in Mt Martha.

She was standing next to the nicked vehicle, abusing and yelling at parents and their children enjoying some fun at the nearby playground before cops came and arrested her.

In the same month she was spotted by witnesses in the middle of Nepean Highway in Frankston waving a metal probe at oncoming traffic.

She then walked to a nearby squatters’ house and when police came she resisted arrest.

Capsicum spray had to be deployed three times and one officer had to draw his firearm before she was eventually subdued.

Then on January 14 this year police were called to Capel Sound beach after Cragg and a friend had swum to a boat.

She ransacked the vessel before she was caught with ice, cannabis and valium in her handbag.

Each time she was arrested she was unfit to be interviewed due to drug or health concerns.

Her defence lawyer said Cragg suffered from mental health issues which had been exasperated by her serious ice use which resulted from PTSD due to serious incidents in her past.

She said she had already spent 73 days in custody and had used that time to “reflect on her actions and reflect on her future”.

The court heard her co-accused boyfriend received a six-month jail term and a 12-month corrections order for his part in the attack.

Magistrate Timothy Gattuso said Cragg’s crimes were very concerning.

“She went to someone’s house and punched and kicked him while he lay on the ground,” Mr Gattuso said.

“And there is also other serious offending, (she was) waving a metal pole at traffic and police had to attend and she resisted to the point where firearms were drawn.”

She was sent for a community corrections assessment, but advised she would likely be spending some more time in jail before any order would begin.

Cragg will be sentenced on April 14.
