Lars Pluto will share his passion for country music in the Nashville Live show at Frankston Arts Centre.

FOR Lars Pluto, only one genre of music sings to and from his heart.

While Pluto doesn’t mind listening to the odd bit of 1990s rock, its country that is truly his touchstone.

Not, mind you, country blended with pop, but straight up and down, solid country.

“If I’m in the car it’s going to be country on the radio,” he told the Leader.

“For me, country music is vital — it’s like the air I breathe.”

Pluto is one of the performers in Nashville Live, which is billed as a celebration of the legends of country music and the stories behind the hits.

He said the show, which is coming to Frankston, was performed in a ‘Grand Ole Opry’ style. “Nashville Live is a recreation of the classic Grand Ole Opry (radio) broadcast performed live on stage,” Pluto said.

The music of greats including Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson and Dolly Parton, as well as more contemporary numbers by Shania Twain, Garth Brooks and the Dixie Chicks, are performed.

Pluto acts as the show’s announcer and also sings numbers by Cash, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson and more.

“It’s quick fire and fast paced,” he said.

The show also includes mock recreations of the commercials that were a feature of the ‘Grand Ole Opry’ broadcasts.

Asked about “our” Keith Urban, Pluto rates him as a musician and a talented guitarist. But is Urban’s music country?

“He is more pop. He is pushing the boundaries (of country music).

“I like my country to sound proper.”

See Nashville Live at Frankston Arts Centre on Tuesday, March 26. Tickets $74.90 to $79.90.
