A tradie has spoken of how he put his anger aside in a road rage incident to help a distraught father chase down a man who allegedly kidnapped his son.
Tanveer Saffari was arguing with another driver, Massoud Massoud after a road incident in Dandenong on Monday.
As their disagreement took place, an opportunistic man swooped in and stole Mr Massoud’s Kia Carnival, speeding off the street with his two-year-old son Mohammad inside.
The 24-year-old tradie told Channel 9 he forgot completely about their disagreement and the pair jumped in his car to chase after the other vehicle.
He said Mohammad’s father was hysterical.
“He’s crying and he’s only shouting: ‘My child, my child’.”
The good Samaritan said his feelings over the road rage was no longer an issue following their ordeal.
“We are brothers now,” Mr Sidari told Channel 7.
Mohammad was spotted at 4.35pm wandering the aisles of a Woolworths supermarket 16km away in Ferntree Gully.
The man accused of taking the vehicle, Kyle Bell, has since been charged with child stealing and car theft.
Mr Bell, who is also 24, appeared briefly before Dandenong Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday after his arrest on Tuesday. The court heard Mr Bell has an intellectual disability and was on bail at the time.
The vehicle was later found dumped and investigators were forensically combing through the car for evidence.
Magistrate Costas Kilias remanded Bell to return to the same court on August 1.
