Krystal Davis: Druggie caught with ice, GHB at Port Phillip Prison

A woman with an appalling rap sheet has been nabbed with drugs yet again – this time right outside a jail — with a judge labelling her crimes “Groundhog Day”.

A magistrate has warned a drug-using dodgy driver that her “Groundhog Day” court appearances may mean she spends Christmas behind bars.

Krystal Jody-Ann Davis has been continually fronting court for years for possessing drugs, driving while high or disqualified — or both.

This time the 36-year-old was nabbed with ice and GHB in a car parked outside Port Phillip Prison.

She was also pulled over several times for driving while suspended or disqualified, once with ice in her system, and found with GHB in her handbag.

She pleaded guilty to a range of traffic and drug possession charges at the Frankston Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.

The court heard in August 2019 Davis and a friend were visiting Port Phillip Prison when guards became suspicious.

They searched their car — which was parked in the jail carpark — and found a syringe, a bottle of GHB and four small bags of ice in a backpack belonging to Davis.

In April 2019 she was pulled over in a “high-risk drug area” of Frankston with GHB in her bag, and in October the same year she was caught in Carrum Downs driving while suspended and high on ice.

In November 2019 she was caught driving while disqualified in Frankston, and in March this year she was nabbed again without a licence, this time in Chelsea.

Defence lawyer Daniel Ajak said she had suffered in her personal life, including being stabbed recently, but had now taken steps to “clean herself up” and get drug and mental health help.

He said she knows she has an “appalling” history and has “had her run-ins” with the courts.

He submitted a corrections order would be an appropriate penalty or a deferral of sentence to allow her time to “demonstrate that she can stay out of trouble”.

Magistrate Richard Pithouse said that would be the starting point — if she was accepted by Corrections.

“She’s had five CCOs, hasn’t completed one, not one,” Mr Pithouse said.

“What confidence could I have she would engage, she has a demonstrated history of noncompliance for exactly the same charges.”

He said he would give her some time to show that she has indeed turned a corner, but said there will likely be a prison component to his sentence when it was imposed.

“These crimes are almost a repetition of what her priors have been to date,” Mr Pithouse said.

“The short and tall of it is this is deja vu, it is Groundhog Day, it’s here we go again.

“She is a prolific user of drugs, and she’s also a bad driver with no licence.”

Davis was bailed on strict conditions that she not drive or take drugs, obey a curfew and undertake a corrections assessment.

She will return to court on December 17 to be sentenced.

She was also disqualified from driving for three years.
