A Frankston footy player caught with steroids and illicit drugs had the substances because he wanted to improve his look, a court has heard.

Koby Villis was 21 when drug cops raided his Carrum Downs rental house, finding the muscle enhancers, bags of ketamine and bottles of 1-4 bute.

Officers then asked him for his phone PIN but he denied giving them the numbers because he said the mobile “was also his work phone”.

Villis, now 22, pleaded guilty to drug possessions and refusing to give access to police charges at the Frankston Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.

The court heard cops raided his house, which he had rented with a pal, on October 8 last year.

In the garage and kitchen they found bottles of 1-4 bute and in his bedroom they uncovered a 1g bag of ketamine.

Behind his TV cabinet they discovered two more bags of ketamine, weighing 2.5g in total, and 60ml of steroids.

Villis made full admissions to possessing the drugs but said he didn’t want officers to look through his phone.

Defence lawyer Richard Jakobson said Villis, a plumber who had no criminal priors, had the steroids for his own use because he wanted to “increase his body mass” and improve “his own view of himself”.

He said his client had turned to using drugs to cope with the stress of caring for his ill father, but had now “ceased using substances”.

He said he was now back working, his dad was being looked after by other family members and he knows he needs to “make better choices for himself”.

Magistrate Timothy Gattuso said his lack of co-operation with police was not a positive, and his work phone explanation was meaningless.

He told Villis he had strong family support and was regarded well in the general and sporting communities.

“But that (support) will come to naught if you continue to engage in the drug scene,” Mr Gattuso said.

“It often leads to other crimes.”

Villis was fined a total of $750, with no conviction recorded.
