A Keysborough man shoved a syringe up his bottom in a bid to stop police from taking it from him during an outburst in custody, a court has heard.
And Reece Magazinovic’s desperate attempt to stash the syringe while in holding cells at Moorabbin police station landed him with a trip to hospital to get it out.
The Dandenong Magistrates Court heard Magazinovic started screaming and pleading for a phone call just after 3am on June 26 before holding up his orange-capped syringe — which had not been detected in initial searches — to the cell’s CCTV camera.
But when his phone call wish was not granted and officers came rushing to take the syringe from him, Magazinovic stuffed the needle up his bottom.
“ (Magazinovic) was laying down … police (also) found a white substance in plastic in his underwear,” the prosecution said.
Magazinovic, who previously suffered from episodes of drug induced psychosis, was rushed to Alfred Hospital before he returned to custody.
Magistrate Tony Burns heard the man’s outburst preceded the discovery of a wooden box containing a round of 32 and 22 calibre ammunition by police in his Keysborough bungalow on June 24.
“You acted like a goose (on June 26), you need to stop acting like a goose,” Mr Burns said.
Magazinovic, who spent 19 days in custody, pleaded guilty possess cartridge ammunition, possess heroin and act prejudicial in jail.
He was convicted and fined $750.
