Shocking details have been revealed in court about the alleged torture, strangling and partial dismembering of a Frankston dance music fan.

Matthew Warrington’s remains were discovered near the Glen Waverley train line on July 21, 2023.

The grisly discovery was made three days after emergency services were called to a suspicious fire at the convicted drug dealer’s house only 500m away on Binalong Ave, Chadstone.

Three people – Kasha McIver, 37, Dylan Wyatt, 36, and Brendan Dalton, 53, – were later charged over Mr Warrington’s murder.

The committal hearing for the trio began on Monday in Melbourne Magistrates Court.

The first witness to be called, Rhonda Gilligan, spent most of the day telling the court what she had seen and heard prior to Mr Wyatt and Ms McIver’s arrest.

The court heard that Mr Wyatt, who Ms Gilligan had known for about 10 years, had turned up “out of the blue” to her Seaford share house last July looking for somewhere to stay.

Ms McIver had later joined him and both had “a lot of bags”.

Ms Gilligan told the court that during her brief stay in Seaford, Ms McIver allegedly told her that Mr Wyatt had “sprayed acid” on Mr Warrington’s eyes, nose and mouth and that she had “used a rope or something” to strangle him to death.

“She said she did it because she was so sick and tired of him moaning and groaning in her lounge room,” Ms Gilligan said.

Ms McIver also allegedly told Ms Gilligan that she and Mr Wyatt each cut off one of Mr Warrington’s legs after his death.

The court heard that while at the Seaford house, two small bottles fell from Mr Wyatt’s pocket.

Ms Gilligan said she assumed the bottles contained eye drops, but that Mr Wyatt allegedly told her: “Nah, they’re acid”.

“I used them to spray into people’s eyes, it could turn people blind in half an hour,” Mr Wyatt allegedly told Ms Gilligan

Ms Gilligan told the court the exchange shocked and frightened her.

“I was scared he was going to do it to me,” she said.

The court also heard that while at the Seaford house Mr Wyatt was allegedly carrying a plastic sandwich bag containing a human finger, believed to have belonged to Mr Warrington.

Ms Gilligan said she only “got a glance” of the bag but that Mr Wyatt allegedly threw it at one of her housemates and he saw that it was a finger.

The hearing will continue on Tuesday.
