Tyson de Jersey: Man arrested outside Karingal Village after early morning pursuit

A man has faced court following an early-morning high-speed pursuit in Melbourne’s southeast, which ended outside a Frankston shopping centre.

A man arrested outside at a Frankston shopping centre on Monday morning after he allegedly led police on a wild early-morning police pursuit in a stolen car could have been infected with Covid-19.

Tyson de Jersey, 34, dialled in from his cell to face Frankston Magistrates’ Court on Monday afternoon after he was taken into custody in the early hours of the morning.

Police were patrolling in Clyde North when they noticed the allegedly stolen Toyota Camry on Selandra Boulevard about 2.50am.

Mr de Jersey allegedly sped off and drove erratically on the Westernport Highway towards Carrum Downs, with officers calling in the air wing to follow him.

He continued along Ballarto Rd and allegedly zoomed along at more than 120km/h in a 80km/h zone on the wrong side of the road.

Mr de Jersey then drove into the underground carpark of Karingal Village shopping centre, and upon exiting was stopped by officers at the intersection of Karringal Drive and Derna Crescent, where he was arrested.

Officers charged Mr de Jersey with alleged car theft, a string of alleged dangerous driving and traffic offences, and allegedly committing an indictable offence while on bail.

The court heard Mr de Jersey may have been infected with Covid-19, and his defence lawyer Richard Jakobson said he was also suffering from depression, anxiety and borderline personality disorder.

Magistrate Tim Gattuso ordered Mr de Jersey be further remanded to face the court again on November 8.
