A Wantirna South dad has been busted in an un-suck-essful Facebook Marketplace scheme, where he scammed an unsuspecting victim out of $250 for a vacuum cleaner.

A Wantirna South pallet packer has been busted running a Facebook Marketplace scam where he sucked in a victim with the promise of a Dyson vacuum cleaner.
Kaide Bacon, 31, pleaded guilty in Moorabbin Magistrates’ Court on May 19 to one charge of obtaining financial advantage by deception.
The court heard the father of two posted an ad on Facebook Marketplace in April 2023 for a Dyson vacuum cleaner, listing it for $250.
He messaged back and forth with the victim where they exchanged bank details for the sale, before the victim transferred him the agreed $250.
Bacon organised a drop off time, where he agreed to deliver the vacuum cleaner to the victim’s home.
After Bacon didn’t deliver the Dyson, the victim attempted to contact him via Facebook where she got no response.
The court heard the victim later reported the incident to police.
When Bacon was arrested he gave a no comment interview.
On Monday, Bacon said he was “remorseful and wanted to take responsibility for his actions”.
He told the court he had been experiencing homelessness, poor mental health and had been struggling with drug addiction at the time of the offending.
Magistrate Jan Maclean fined Bacon $300 with conviction and ordered him to repay the stolen $250 in restitution to the victim.
