A Frankston peer support worker who helps people with drug and alcohol addiction has been busted speeding with meth in his system.
Joshua Oliver pleaded guilty in the Moorabbin Magistrates’ Court on July 16 to driving while on meth and speeding.
The court heard Oliver was clocked by cops on the Monash Freeway on December 28 last year, doing 115km/h in a 100km/h zone.
After he was pulled over, he returned a positive oral fluid test for methamphetamines.
The drug and alcohol support worker said he “didn’t realise he was speeding”.
In court on Tuesday, Oliver told Magistrate Robert Stary he had been “going through a rough time” when he was pulled over.
“I had a lot going on at home and was going through a lot of personal things,” he said.
“I managed to get through my battle with substance abuse and have reached out to get help.”
He described being pulled over and charged by cops as a “wake up call”.
Oliver told Mr Stary he regularly attends support group meetings and had informed his workplace about his offending.
Mr Stary fined Oliver $750 with conviction, taking into account the “humiliation and shame” he would have experienced in informing his workplace.
Oliver’s licence was also cancelled and disqualified for 12 months.
