A elderly grub hid an illegal child sex doll - described as “mini, small and young” - in his bedroom wardrobe which he admitted to have sex with, a court has heard Keysborough man who “collected sex dolls” has been busted by Border Force police for importing an illegal child sex doll.
Joseph Kane, 76, pleaded guilty in the Dandenong Magistrates’ Court on July 4 to one charge of intentionally importing a child sex doll.
The court heard Kane’s home was raided by Border Force officers and the Dandenong sexual offence and child abuse investigation team in July 2023.
Officers found the illegal doll – depicting a 10 to 15-year-old child – in a bedroom wardrobe, alongside multiple communication devices showing evidence of the purchase.
In sickening details read out to court, Kane had purchased the doll, described as “mini, small and young”, from an online store based in Hong Kong which specialised in realistic and life-size dolls.
In 17 screenshots taken by investigators, Kane had been in contact with the store, negotiating the price and asking if the doll “will pass through customs”.
The court heard he had two images on his desktop of the doll dated prior to the purchase, after which he used his ANZ credit card to pay $1243.
In repulsive admissions to investigators, Kane confessed to having had sex with the 100cm doll, but was “unsure if it was legal”.
The court heard he had been fully cooperative with police and made full admissions to the purchase of the doll and others like it.
“I am a collector, I have others (dolls) at home but they’re all old,” he told the court on Thursday.
Magistrate Jacinta Studham warned Kane about the seriousness of his offending.
“This has got you into really big trouble,” she said.
“This offending is not at the more serious end of the scale for this kind of crime, if it was, Border Force would be asking me to send you to jail today.”
“This is a real warning to you about future conduct.”
Ms Studham jailed Kane for four months but immediately released him on a recognisance release order on the condition he pay a $1000 bond and be of good behaviour for two years.
He will also be a registered sex offender for an eight-year period.
