The resident of a shared accommodation at Endeavour Hills lay dead for hours after being stabbed by his friend before a call to triple-0 was made, a court has heard.
Jamefil Wal, 39, pleaded guilty in the Supreme Court to a charge of murdering Garang Chock at the Mossgiel Park Accommodation on Monteith Crescent on February 26, 2023.
Court documents showed Wai and Mr Chock, 40, lived next to each other at the shared accommodation, drank together and were known to have arguments.
On the afternoon and early evening of February 25, 2023, both men were seen drinking separately and a neighbour heard a male voice yelling “I am gonna get you” about 10pm.
Other neighbours heard crashing noises and Wal yelling and screaming “Come on, let’s get it on. Where’s my money? Give me my money. I kill you”.
Wal hit Mr Chock’s door several times with a hammer, before CCTV later caught the pair walking towards each other and Wal pulling the tool from his pants.
He hit his friend and the pair struggled, before Wal stabbed him four times with a knife and then hit him again with the hammer.
Between 2.24am and 9.38am, a number of residents at the accommodation moved
throughout the corridor while the Mr Chock lay dead.
Some of them noticed him but continued to go about their business until the
caretaker called triple-0 at 9.39am.
Wal was taken to the Narre Warren police station where he said Mr Chock was his neighbour since October 2022 and was “like a friend to me”.
He said both used to drink and smoke and said they used to fight “like friends, you know”.
Wal was remanded back in custody to be sentenced likely in the new year.
