A former Australian soldier and self-proclaimed neo-Nazi has learned his fate after a counter-terrorism unit uncovered handmade guns at his home.

Jake Schultz, 30, was sentenced in Dandenong Magistrates’ Court on March 14 to several charges ranging from threatening to kill his next door neighbour to illegally possessing weapons, including two homemade revolvers.

Schultz pleaded guilty to the raft of charges against him in a two part plea hearing in February and March, after a police raid on his Tooradin home uncovered the illegal weapons and a stash of neo-Nazi material.

The court heard the SOG conducted a raid on January 13, 2022, finding two homemade revolvers, knuckle dusters, several rounds of ammunition as well as white supremacist propaganda strewn throughout Schultz’s property.

In an interview with police, Schultz made full admissions to everything found in the search warrant.

When asked why he had the homemade revolvers and other weapons, Schultz said it was for “self defence”.

“I made it, for when the Japs or the Chinese come running from the f---ing sky one day,” he said.

“I’m a neo-Nazi, f---ing oath.”

Schultz pleaded guilty to other drug and driving related matters, including an instance where he verbally abused a service station staff member before breaking a counter top plastic perspex to steal cigarettes and a violent altercation where he threatened to kill his next door neighbour.

The court heard Schultz was a repeat offender for driving while disqualified and dangerous driving.

On September 10, 2021, police saw him riding a black Harley Davidson motorcycle in Carrum Downs, with a headlight out.

When officers signalled for him to pull over, the court heard Schultz accelerated heavily, travelling at 177km/h in a 90km/h zone.

Police followed him and saw him travel through a red light, almost colliding with another vehicle in the intersection, before he again accelerated and was recorded doing 164km/h in a 100 km/h zone.

Schultz left the army in 2021, when his offending first began.

On Thursday, the court heard Schultz had already spent 181 days behind bars.

Magistrate Christina Windisch sentenced Schultz with conviction to 181 days time served and an 18 month community corrections order, warning him not to breach the strict conditions.

“Your offending has been completely unacceptable, it’s not going to be tolerated in society, ” she said.

“If you do anything like this again, the starting point for you is jail.”

Schultz will be released into a medical clinic for drug and alcohol rehabilitation and will remain under mental health monitoring.

His licence was disqualified for 12 months for the driving charges and he will have to complete 150 hours of unpaid community work.
