Jacob Jolley
A Dandenong man said he was escaping a toxic living environment with his dog when he was caught driving with meth in his system.
Jacob Jolley, 30, pleaded guilty in Dandenong Magistrates’ Court on February 29, to driving while unlicensed and drug driving.
The court heard police pulled Jolley over on July 30 last year in Dandenong, where he couldn’t provide his licence.
He returned a positive result for methamphetamines with the car impounded for 30 days.
On Thursday, the court heard Jolley had been escaping a toxic living environment, where his housemate had assaulted him immediately prior to him being pulled over by police.
Jolley told the court his friend had come to pick him and his dog up to stay at her place.
On their way to her home, the friend had stopped at her partner’s house where they got into a physical altercation.
Jolley said she had been arrested, leaving him and his dog with nowhere to go.
He had been cooperative with police at all times.
The court heard after the car had been impounded, Jolley ended up living rough with his dog, until recently.
Jolley claims to have fully turned his life completely around, now working as a butcher’s labourer and living with his employer.
He told the court he was 109 days free from methamphetamines.
Magistrate Peter Reardon noted Jolley’s “very bad driving history” in his sentencing decision.
Jolley was convicted and fined $1500 and was disqualified from driving for 12 months.
Jayden Ball
A Pakenham man caught driving while disqualified told police he had gone for a spin to “clear his head”.
Jayden Ball pleaded guilty in Dandenong Magistrates Court on February 29 to driving while disqualified and knowingly driving an unroadworthy car.
The court heard police were conducting a breath test station in Cockatoo on November 6 last year when they saw Ball approach
the booze bus, before doing a U-turn and retreating in the opposite direction.
Officers followed him and intercepted him a short time later, where they found his licence was suspended for three months due to points accumulation.
He also was driving a car that had been modified to sit too low to the ground, making it unroadworthy.
Ball told police he knew he was disqualified, and had just “wanted to go for a drive to clear his head”.
In court on Thursday, the full time chef said he “understood he’d made a mistake, and was very apologetic for it.”
Magistrate Peter Reardon convicted and fined Ball $1200.
Sardar Ali
A man caught driving with drugs in his system has told a court he was “on his way to work” when he was busted
Sardar Ali, 23, pleaded guilty in Dandenong Magistrates’ Court on February 29 to drug driving and driving while disqualified.
The court heard police had set up a breath testing station on October 19 last year when Ali drove through.
Unable to provide his licence, he admitted to police that he was driving while disqualified.
After undergoing an oral fluid test, Ali returned a positive reading.
He was fined $932 on the spot .
In an interview, he told officers he had previously been smoking marijuana with his friends.
On Thursday, he told Magistrate Peter Reardon he had been “on his way to work”.
“I work at a factory in Bayswater,” he said.
“It takes me over an hour to get to work.”
He told the court he had since sold his car so he wouldn’t be tempted to drive.
Magistrate Peter Reardon said Ali’s driving while disqualified was “aggravated” by the fact that he was also under the influence.
Ali was convicted and fined $1000 and ordered to pay $136.70 in costs, as well as having to do a drug driving court.
His licence was also cancelled for 12 months.
Zane Huysman
A Lyndhurst man caught doing burnouts in an industrial lot in Cranbourne West told police he wanted to “finish” his tires.
Zane Huysman pleaded guilty in Dandenong Magistrates’ Court on February 29 to hooning charges.
The court heard Huysman was busted doing burnouts in a Cranbourne West industrial estate on November 11 last year.
Huysman was deliberately losing tire traction, causing smoke to billow from tyres.
Officers stopped him, where he told them he “was getting the tires changed”.
“We’re in an industrial estate, I thought I’d finish them,” he said.
His car was impounded for 30 days, costing him $1005.
The landfill machine operator told Magistrate Peter Reardon on Thursday, he had “no good reason” for his offending.
Mr Reardon fined Huysman $800 with conviction, ordering him to also complete a safe driving program, and pay $136.70 in costs to the prosecution.
Lachlan Aitken
A P-Plater has been booted off the road after being snapped breaking the speed limit by a newly installed speed camera.
Lachlan Aitken pleaded guilty in Dandenong Magistrates’ Court on February 29 to speeding more than 40km/h over the prescribed limit.
The court heard a road safety camera was set up on Lyall Rd in Berwick on October 11 last year, where it captured Aitken doing 111km/h in a 60km/h zone.
Police later attended his home and impounded his car for 30 days.
In court on Thursday, the apprentice carpenter told Magistrate Peter Reardon he had “no good reason” for his speed.
“It wasn’t a good choice and I’m sorry for what I did,” he said.
Aitken lost his licence for 12 months and was ordered to pay an $800 fine without conviction.
