A boozer who allegedly grabbed and groped a woman after she let him into her house because he said he needed to call a cab has been released from jail.

Jackson Hume is accused of ripping his clothes off before grabbing the woman’s breast and smacking her on her buttocks.

The Pearcedale 25-year-old concreter successfully applied for bail at the Frankston Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.

The court heard Mr Hume, who is contesting sexual assault charges, allegedly went to the home of the 62-year-old woman, who he knew, late at night on May 17 this year and asked her to call him a taxi.

She let him inside but then he allegedly took his clothes off, showed her his genitalia and allegedly told her “you want it, you want it”.

She repeatedly told him to get dressed and leave, but he then allegedly slapped the woman on her buttocks and groped her breast.

She Facetimed her daughter, who allegedly saw Mr Hume naked in her mum’s house and also told him to get dressed and leave.

He then allegedly helped himself to some of the woman’s food, picked up a screwdriver and said “I could stab you”.

The woman responded by getting a kitchen knife, saying her weapon was bigger, and he put the screwdriver down and left.

Police had been called and arrested him nearby, but he was unfit to be interviewed due to his alcohol-affected state.

He later told officers he didn’t recall what had happened.

Defence lawyer Tim Smurthwaite said his client was disputing the charges and there was no corroboration to prove he had sexually assaulted the woman.

He said his client had already spent 141 days in custody and there were issues of delay due to the prospect he could end up serving more time on remand than he may be sentenced to even if found guilty.

Magistrate Julian Ayres bailed Mr Hume with conditions including that he not drive, drink alcohol or take drugs, and abide by a night-time curfew.

He will face court again on November 16.
