A FRANKSTON fraudster who set up a fake ID factory has been jailed for 18 months.

He was caught with a large number of stolen and altered driving licences, nicked bank cards, made-up birth certificates, phony payslips and an array of dodgy printing equipment.

Jordan Gercco, 36, pleaded guilty to 26 charges at Frankston Magistrates’ Court on November 13.

The court heard Gercco would use licences and ID documents with his own mugshot on them, but fake names to set up fraudulent phone company contracts.

Once he had a new phone he would sell it on Gumtree and other websites for up to $900 a pop.

When he was finally tracked down to a Parkdale address on October 24 this year, police found ice and numerous stolen and doctored cards with his photo on them.

His crime spree dates back to August 2015 when he used fake documents to rent a South Yarra unit, which he filled with furniture obtained using dodgy IDs.

He then sold the goods to his landlord before going back, breaking in and stealing them back.

In January 2016 he was found in Baxter with drugs, fraudulent driving licences, blank card templates and various stolen bank cards.

Police also located equipment used to make IDs, computer files such as fake utility bills, birth certificates and bank statements, as well as several stolen phones and SIM cards.

In August 2016 he set up a loan agreement with JB HiFi in Mill Park, ‘buying’ a laptop, TV and iPhone worth $5778 with fake details, never paying back any of the money.

Last year Gercco featured as one of the Mornington Peninsula Leader’s ‘10 Most Wanted’ crims on warrants and deception offences.

In court his defence lawyer said the former plasterer was “ravaged” by an addiction to ice, and turned to crime to feed his habit.

Magistrate Rodney Crisp said courts were “immersed” in ice addicts facing multiple charges, and jail was the right option.

“The average ice user does much better in the custodial environment than on a community corrections order,” Mr Crisp said.

Gercco was jailed for 18 months with a non-parole period of 12 months. He was also banned from driving for four years.
