‘I am going to beat you’: Miraex Hothnyang attacked ex-boyfriend after learning of his new girlfriend

Moving on after a breakup can be tough — but what one woman did after she discovered her ex had a new partner, and stormed out of a South Yarra nightclub bent on revenge, landed her in the County Court.

An enraged ex-girlfriend stormed out of a South Yarra nightclub, made her cousin drive her to Cranbourne North, broke into her ex-boyfriend’s house and kicked him “in the balls” after discovering he had a new girlfriend.

Miraex Hothnyang, 24, was sentenced in the County Court last Tuesday after pleading guilty to aggravated burglary, damaging property and common assault.

Hothnyang blew her top just after 1am on November 11 when she was told her former boyfriend of six years, Ben Chak, had shacked up with a new woman.

She told her cousin to drive her to Mr Chak’s Cranbourne North home. In the car on the way she said she was “going to fight Ben, I’m going to fight Ben now”.

Her cousin tried to calm her down but Hothnyang insisted on confronting Mr Chak despite breaking up with him in July.

The cousin later told police she believed Hothnyang was “alcohol affected” but seemed to “know what she was saying”.

Mr Chak said he was woken up by a loud bang when Hothnyang arrived about 3am.

He went outside to find his ex-girlfriend yelling and trying to get into the house.

Mr Chak tried to take Hothnyang back to the car but went inside after she refused to leave.

Not long after, Hothnyang jumped a side fence and ripped a screen off a bedroom window.

She was confronted by Mr Chak’s flatmate who asked her what she was doing.

“I want to fight, I want to fight … this is fun for me,” Hothnyang said.

She left but returned shortly after and used her high heel to smash the bedroom window.

Hothnyang cut herself as she tried to climb through the window.

She eventually got into the house, made her way to the kitchen and abused Mr Chak’s girlfriend.

Hothnyang punched and slapped Mr Chak, who later told police his ex had “kicked me in the balls”.

Mr Chak called police but Hothnyang kept raging.

“I’m going to beat you and I’m going to beat her too,” she said.

Police arrived and hauled Hothnyang away. She slapped Mr Chak as she was led out.

“I want to fight him, I want to bash him,” Hothnyang said during her police interview.

“I’m going to go there and bash him.”

Police said Hothnyang was “intoxicated and unsteady” and was “cooperative but very obnoxious”.

Judge Trevor Wraight said Hothnyang’s offending had “some disturbing elements to it” but she had strong prospects of rehabilitation.

“Your relationship has ended and he (Mr Chak) was entitled to move on with his life,” he said.

“(This) was an isolated incident that occurred in the context you being emotionally upset.

“Your immaturity played a part in the offending.”

Hothnyang, who has no priors, was given a two year community corrections order and must complete 150 hours of unpaid community work.
