A social enterprise initiative to end homelessness is supporting hundreds of vulnerable people in the community.
HomeGround Real Estate, operated by Launch Housing, delivers professional property management services for people who want to make a difference in tackling the current housing crisis.
The agency, which has more than 150 landlords, opened in 2014 in response to the growing demand on homelessness services in Melbourne and a sharp decline in affordable, social housing and public housing in Victoria.
HomeGround Real Estate manager Simone Curley said the service was extremely valuable for the community.
“With HomeGround Real Estate, you get the same level of service, if not better than neighbouring agencies, but with the comfort of knowing that all the profits go back into the community to help people doing it tough,” Ms Curley said.
“We’re in the growth phase right now and we’ve had a 31 per cent increase in the amount of net properties we managed in 2020.”
Ms Curley said the enterprise was providing hope to the most vulnerable in the community.
“Some of our clients are clients are single parents in need and this is a breakthrough for them to get into the that rental market.”
She said the enterprise was active across all regions in Melbourne.
“We’re really active in the northern corridor and the west … we do manage properties in the southeast too including Frankston and Cranbourne.”
Ms Curley said HomeGround Real Estate’s mission was for every client to be treated equally.
“Whether you’re a landlord or a tenant, you’re a client of ours because we can have properties on our books but if we don’t have tenants, we don’t have a social enterprise.
“We want to help our tenants as much as we can in sustaining secure long-term rentals.”
