HASTINGS SES needs your help.
The busy unit is in desperate need of new volunteers to help cope with increasing demand.
There are currently 15 active members mainly available after work, but the unit is hoping to recruit people available during business hours, nights and weekends.
The team responds to calls for help from Baxter to Red Hill South for flood and storm damage, search and rescue and to help other emergency services 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
“As there are more frequent severe weather events and the demands on our service grow, we need to find new volunteers who are able to help us provide this crucial service to our community,” unit controller Naomi Jewell said.
Volunteers will be trained in first aid, communications, chainsaw, generators, 4WD driving, navigation and roof top safety.
An information session is being held at the Frankston-Flinders Rd headquarters on July 15. Details: hastings@ses.vic.gov.au
