Harry Faulkhead: Sleepy Seaford druggie had cleaver down shorts

A weapon wielder who kept a blade engraved with ‘Don’t f*** around’ in his pants couldn’t stop nodding off at train stations.

A knife-possessing ice abuser had a habit of falling asleep at public transport sites with a large weapon tucked into his shorts, a court has heard.

Harry Faulkhead was caught taking 40 winks in the back of a bus and on a railway bench while heavily drug-affected and each time had an edged tool sticking out of his waistband.

The Seaford 23-year-old pleaded guilty to weapons, proceeds of crime, drugs and breach offences at the Frankston Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

The court heard at lunchtime on Christmas Eve, 2018, Faulkhead was seen asleep by PSOs on a bench at Southern Cross station.

When they approached him they saw the handle of a large blade protruding from his pants, and called cops.

When officers arrived they removed the weapon, which was a very large meat cleaver, from a still sleeping Faulkhead.

They woke him up from his drug-induced haze and asked him why he had the knife, which had the words “Don’t f*** around” engraved on the blade, to which he said “protection”.

He also had an ice pipe and $850 in cash on him, for which he gave no good reason.

And then on March 21 last year he was again feeling a bit under the weather drugs-wise when a driver saw him asleep on the back seat of a bus at Cranbourne railway station.

The man noticed Faulkhead had a knife in his shorts and called police, who found him again in possession of a prohibited blade.

He also had two more knives in his bag, but wouldn’t tell officers why.

Defence lawyer Anika Waldin said he had already spent 22 days on remand and was remorseful for his crimes, for which he has no priors.

She said “the heart of his offending was his use of methamphetamine and other substances” and he has spent periods of times without a home.

She said a fine without a conviction was an appropriate penalty.

But Magistrate Timothy Gattuso didn’t agree, saying support was required for his drug issues and instead sent him for a corrections order assessment.

“He needs ongoing supervision in the community to make sure he wasn’t placing others at risk,” Mr Gattuso said.

“He has had repeated possession of weapons while substance affected.

“Some further rehabilitation and supervision is appropriate.”
