The sudden death of a beloved dad has left his family reeling, as they face a shock double tragedy.
Trent Muscat, 48, was found dead in his home on May 9 after suffering a suspected heart attack, just one month after the death of his ex-mother-in-law.
Trent’s ex-partner, co-parent and close friend Hayley Boyle raised the alarm on the evening of May 8 after he failed to answer calls from herself, their daughter and his mum.
“I had this terrible feeling, I don’t know how to describe it,” Ms Boyle said.
“I woke up at 6am the next day and made my way down (to his house) and I could see him laying on the floor through the window.
“I smashed through the glass and climbed into the house but it was too late.”
He shared three children with Ms Boyle – Faith, Van and Bobby.
Ms Boyle described Trent as a “really committed father”, whose “focus and love in life” was his three kids.
“He cared so deeply for the kids and his mother — he just wanted to make sure everyone was OK,” Ms Boyle said.
In a cruel twist of fate, Trent died just one month after Ms Boyle’s mother.
“My children are really struggling,” she said.
“In 2021 I moved my father into our property with our kids, and nursed him until he passed away, and I looked after my mum until she passed a month ago and now this.
“That’s three funerals in four years.”
Ms Boyle said Trent had shared a special relationship with their youngest son, 13-year-old Bobby.
“They were more like best friends than father and son,” she said.
“They would work on cars together most weekends — that’s something Bobby will continue to do.”
Struck with the double dose of tragedy, a GoFundMe was created to support Ms Boyle and the children.
At the time of writing, the fundraiser has raised $1965.
