A drug dealer who peddled meth and high-powered guns to undercover police will serve his jail sentence in protective custody.
Rajeev Singh, 29, was sentenced in the County Court on Friday to a minimum six years’ jail after pleading guilty to multiple drug trafficking and gun charges.
Singh sold more than half a kilo of meth and several high-powered guns to two undercover cops between October 2017 and April 2018.
Investigators launched a sting operation on Singh after an undercover cop posing as a mid-range drug dealer named buddied up with Singh.
The cop told Singh he was a drug dealer who moved meth between Melbourne and Mildura.
Singh said he moved a kilo of “good quality” meth every “one or two” days.
Singh offered to sell the cop an ounce of meth then said all future drug deals must be via encrypted messaging app Wickr.
Later that month, Singh and the cop drove to Crown Promenade where a mystery, high-level female Korean drug supplier known only as “Yuki” had a room.
Singh scored meth during the visit and showed the cop a photo of what he claimed was a block of high-grade meth.
Singh told the cop he could also get high-powered guns before selling the undercover cop a sawn off 12-guage shotgun for $4000.
Singh later told the cop that Yuki was on her way to Korea for more supplies but a Comanchero bikie named “Drew” could supply 1kg of meth for $130,000.
Singh then sold the cop a bolt action Sauer rifle for $1700, a Luger 9mm sub-machine gun and a fully loaded magazine for $24,500 and a 12-guage Bentley shotgun for $2400.
The cop introduced Singh to a second undercover in late-March.
Police had covert surveillance on Singh and other syndicate players up-and-running by mid-April.
On April 12, Singh sold the second cop 280 grams of meth for $37,000 and a modified semi automatic 9mm handgun for $17,000.
Singh, who told Zac the meth was supplied by an “Asian syndicate”, teed-up a deal to sell the cop half a kilo of meth for $64,000.
The deal was planned for April 17 but police pounced, arresting Singh and others connected to the racket.
The court heard Singh was on bail and serving a community correction for prior drug dealing offences when he was arrested.
Singh’s lawyer accepted his client, a former Eumemmerring College student and apprentice electrician, was not a “blameless dupe”.
Judge George Georgiou said Singh was a trusted “middleman” in the drug supply chain.
“You were more than a ready and willing participant in the illegal activity,” Judge Georgiou said.
“You were motivated by the rewards in drugs and money that you thought such illegal activity would bring.
“Your offending was premeditated, planned and you took steps to avoid detection such as holding onto guns and drugs for as short as time as possible.”
Singh – who had spent 714 days in custody – was jailed for a maximum nine years and nine months.
