A Springvale man has been accused of both stealing power and trafficking drugs after a police raid on his home uncovered a stash of cannabis plants.
Gregory Samuels, 64, fronted the Dandenong Magistrates’ Court on July 2, facing charges including electricity theft and drug trafficking.
Police allege Mr Samuels had been stealing electricity from United Energy for “in excess of two years”, valued at an estimated $5000.
The court heard a raid on his southeastern home also allegedly turned up cannabis plants, varying amounts of the drug in different extracted forms and a slingshot.
Police allege Mr Samuels was selling the cannabis among his friends, after alleged text messages revealed him disclosing a recipe for cannabis and olive oil, supposedly to treat anxiety symptoms.
The court heard that police also found an alleged $21,700 and $5200 in cash in two separate parts of Mr Samuels’ home.
In court on Tuesday, Mr Samuels’ lawyer George Vassis said some of the money police found was inheritance.
“His sister had given him the money from when their father had passed away,” Mr Vassis told the court.
Both parties requested a further adjournment, as other alleged matters were still being worked through.
Mr Samuels is set to return to Dandenong Court on August 13.
