Family and friends have remembered a Gembrook farmer as “the best nonno and father anyone could ask for”, in a touching farewell, after he was killed in a tragic farming accident.

A well-known member of the Gembrook community, “Tony” Alessandro Volta’s farewell was packed, with mourners spilling out of the Pakenham funeral home to pay their respects.

Mr Volta, 82, died after becoming trapped inside a harvester on a Gembrook farm on Wednesday June 29.

At the memorial service on Thursday July 14, Mr Volta’s family and friends remember him as “the best nonno” and “the hardest worker”, barely leaving a dry eye in the house.

A devoted grandfather, Mr Volta’s grandchildren remember him as always being present at their life events and sports games.

“You left us too soon, but you left us doing what you loved. I miss you, and I love you,” granddaughter Amy said.

“My favourite memories with you were our walks after finishing dinner at your house. I’d always go back to dad being amazed at what you told me.”

“You lived a great life, that always seemed so happy and content,” granddaughter Carla said.

“You were the kindest most patient and caring husband, a true gentleman and a great man. Nonna was so lucky to share a life with you.”

“I hope you’re relaxing now, having a coffee with your family and friends. Until we meet again Nonno, I love you and I’ll miss you, and I’ll think of you everyday,” she said.

“I’m thankful for every single memory and will miss you more than any words could ever explain,” grandson Damian said.

“I’m so grateful my children could meet you, and I promise they’ll know every single story about nonno Tony.”

I miss how much you make everyone laugh, but most of all I’ll miss the best part of my week – seeing you at my football games, seeing you watching and having a smoke. I know you’re still watching, but my Saturdays will never be the same.”

Mourners gathered in a sea of black in Pakenham, to send off Mr Volta,

among them, his friends from the Gembrook Indoor Bowls Club.

“Tony was a member with us for 50 years,” one man said,

“He was one of our oldest members, and he’ll be truly missed by all of us.”

A Work Safe representative said the circumstances around Mr Volta’s death were being investigated.
