A Berwick electrician who grew cannabis in a secret room at his home has fronted court.
Gary Peter Hunt, 40, pleaded guilty drug charges in the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Friday after a stash of drugs including a cannabis crop was uncovered by police on December 19 last year.
Hunt was at home with his girlfriend when officers came knocking, with investigators spotting cannabis plants throughout the house before approaching a door at the end of a hallway, labelled as ‘Room 1’.
Hunt’s girlfriend opened the door with a hairpin, leading investigators through a heavy duty door and into a small room with another closed door.
Inside was a sophisticated set up complete with fertilisers, fans and an irrigation system.
Hunt’s shed also contained another two rooms containing more plants, with a total of 19 found across the entire property, Magistrate Kimberley Swadesir heard.
Cocaine, ice and dried cannabis were also seized and there was an electrical bypass installed at the property.
Hunt, who appeared in court via video link, pleaded guilty to charges including cultivate a narcotic plant, possess methamphetamine, possess cannabis and possess a poison.
He will return for sentencing on December 17.
