Fundraiser to help Maxie Todd, 2, of Lennox Head fight cancer

Maxie, 2, was meant to be making memories with her grandparents, instead she’s facing the fight of her life.

A two-week visit to family in Perth has turned into a nightmare for a Lennox Head couple after their little girl was diagnosed with leukaemia.

Brodie Clarke and Jeremy Todd had taken daughter Maxie, 2, to WA to visit Jeremy’s parents when they received the devastating diagnosis.

The little girl has not left the Perth Childrens Hospital since she began her battle to beat the blood cancer.

The family is likely to spend the next 12 months away from home and Ms Clarke’s hairdressing business.

Ms Clarke’s childhood friend Samantha Pulvirenti is supporting the family by organising an online fundraiser and sharing the couple’s plight.

“I felt so helpless,” the Wangaratta mum of two said.

“I haven’t slept a wink since I found out last week.

“Brodie is like a sister. We were next door neighbours here in Wangaratta and have been besties since we were babies.”

She said Maxie was a “strong-willed, fun-spirited little girl” who brought joy and laughter to everyone around her.

“Despite her diagnosis, we all know she will face this battle with incredible bravery and determination.”

A GoFundMe appeal started by Ms Pulvirenti on Friday has raised a staggering $30,000 in just five days.

“They are a very much loved family and people from all over Australia want to help,” Ms Pulvirenti said.

She said the couple and those that loved them were overwhelmed by the support.

“We are deeply grateful for your love, support, and generosity,” she said.

“Together, we can help Maxie and her family navigate this challenging journey and come out stronger on the other side.”

Any funds not used by the family will be donated to Perth Childrens Hospital.
