Frankston’s chrome gnome gets tribute of the garden variety
IT’S attracted plenty of haters since it arrived last week. Now a 9m garden gnome on the side of a Melbourne freeway has found some unlikely new fans.

FRANKSTON’S new giant gnome is proving a sneaky hit, with some locals placing their garden gnomes at the foot of the 9m sculpture.
Artist Gregor Kregar’s Reflective Lullaby was installed at the Pensinsula Link-Cranbourne Rd intersection, Langwarrin, last week, much to the chagrin of many Frankston people.

But that hasn’t stopped some people having a bit of fun with it, with their garden gnomes surrounding the huge chrome structure, sporting signs such as ‘gnomes united’ and ‘recruiting now’.
And Leader readers have taken to Facebook, with some planning to add to the “gnome farm”.
Bec Meiks wrote she and her sister had been “wanting to do it for ages” and planned on putting a gnome there tonight.
Emily Smith tagged her pal Indra Webster and wrote: “mission time!”
While there had been many readers upset at the loss of the popular Tree of Life kinetic sculpture, that was removed from the site a fortnight ago, many have embraced the gnome.
“I love it! The kids think it’s great how the little gnomes are multiplying,” Rachael Goding wrote.
“I think it’s great! I love that everyone’s having a bit of fun with it,” Narelle Boorer wrote.
“I love it, I think, even more than the tree (of life),” Heidi Krause wrote.
