Frankston Street Watch: man cuts up furniture with chainsaw at Ambassador Hotel after feud, Hastings man dies of monoxide poisoning

CRIME WRAP: A Frankston man uses chainsaw to hack through furniture at the Ambassador complex and a Hastings man’s death believed to be from monoxide poisoning, in this week’s Street Watch column.

FRANKSTON

A man wielding a chainsaw cut through a door before using it to destroy furniture at a unit at the Ambassador complex, Frankston. Police said witnesses called police and a 30-year-old Frankston man was arrested after the incident on October 16 at 8pm. The unit occupant, a 29-year-old man, was not home at the time and no-one was injured. Police said the occupant and alleged offender were involved in a fight outside Officeworks earlier in the day. The 30-year-old man was remanded and is due to face court soon on charges including criminal damage.

HASTINGS

A man died due to suspected carbon monoxide poisoning. Concerned neighbours contacted police after they had not seen the 59-year-old for several days. Police forced a rear window to gain entry, but did not enter due to the strong smell of gas. CFA volunteers attended and ventilated the Church St house. Police subsequently discovered the body of a man in the kitchen area.

PENINSULA

Residents are being asked to keep an eye out for a criminal who has the name of a famous wrester, but not the physical appearance. Police are appealing for help to locate Steve Austin, a 40-year-old wanted for failing to appear to face traffic charges. He also goes by the name Luke Tones and is known to frequent Frankston and the Peninsula. He looks nothing like giant musclebound wrestler ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin, instead being described as slight and thin. Information to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Steve Austin (not the wrestler) is wanted by police for traffic offences.
