A paedophile who penetrated a 12-year-old boy without wearing a condom after meeting his victim on a dating app has been jailed.
Terence Bouris, 63, was sentenced in the County Court on Thursday to a minimum two years’ and six months’ jail after pleading guilty to penetrating a child under 16.
Bouris sent his victim “sexualised” messages after meeting the victim on an adult dating app.
Bouris, who thought his victim was 17, drove to the boy’s home in south east Melbourne in November last year.
The “scared” victim told his attacker he was 14 but this didn’t stop Bouris who raped the boy in his Jeep.
Bouris, from Frankston, contacted the boy after the attack hoping the pair could “meet up” again.
He his victim lewd messages and images until the boy ceased contact.
The victim’s father reported the incident to police after he reviewed CCTV and observed his son get into Bouris’ Jeep.
Investigators raided Bouris’ Frankston home and seized evidence including his iPhone.
Bouris denied “any sexual activity” with the boy but later admitted he was “aroused” and the victim was a “good looking boy”.
The victim’s mother, in her victim impact statement, said she told her son that he’d “done nothing wrong” and “it’s going to be OK”.
The mum also spoke of her anguish waiting for blood tests results as Bouris raped her son without wearing a condom.
The court heard the mum was particularly concerned about the “dreaded HIV virus”.
Bouris, via his lawyer, submitted he was “ashamed” of his offending and hoped the victim “can grow up a to have a happy life”.
Bouris, a convicted fraudster, claims on his Facebook page to be a manager at a NSW surf life saving club but told the court he was “unemployed”.
Bouris, a grandfather, also claims he owned a tour business and managed a resort bar in Koh Samui.
Bouris also has a stack of photos of himself in Koh Samui — a Thailand island known to be a hunting ground for paedophiles.
Judge Anne Hassan said the offending was “way too serious” for a community correction order.
“You were a 62-year-old mature man, he was 12 years old, a child,” Judge Hassan said.
“You knew what you were doing was wrong … you let your desire for a younger sexual partner overwhelm you and you had sexual contact with a 12-year-old boy … your moral culpability (was) high.”
Bouris, who also pleaded guilty to grooming a child for a sexual offence, was jailed for a maximum three years and nine months.
He was placed on the sex offender registry for 15 years.
