A Rosebud man has avoided jail, despite being found with a machete, meth and a large knife in a stolen car he was using.
Michael Litton appeared in the Frankston Magistrates Court on Monday where he pleaded guilty to dealing with property suspected to be proceeds of crime and possession of weapons charges.
On December 14 last year police attended Litton’s address in Rosebud on a separate unrelated matter when they noticed a stolen car parked out the front.
Litton’s housemate told police it was Litton’s car and he had just arrived home.
Litton helped police find the keys to the car which was then searched.
The court heard police found a large machete on the passenger seat, a zip lock bag of meth, and a large kitchen knife.
Police also found power tools in the car which were believed to be stolen.
The court heard the 34-year-old had been in jail before for trafficking and weapons offences but had stayed out of the slammer for the past five years.
It wasn’t alleged Litton stole the car found at his address, simply that he was using it.
The court heard Litton was currently unemployed but had previously worked many unstable jobs.
Litton was sentenced to a nine month community corrections order and ordered to pay a $400 fine.
