FRANKSTON Council appears to be at sea over the troubled Frankston Yacht Club project.

It has again embarked on an Expressions of Interest (EOI) process for the lease of the restaurant, cafe and function space — despite failed previous efforts.

The $10.7 million building was completed in 2016, but has repeatedly failed to attract a restaurant operator due to its lack of air conditioning and incomplete flooring and ceiling upstairs.

In a statement, mayor Colin Hampton said: “Allowing a tenant to select their flooring and ceiling options is a more appealing component for prospective tenants.

“Council will work with the successful operator to ensure a quality fit-out following the completion of the procurement process.”

He said council wanted to find the “right operator” to lease the facility.

“We’re committed to achieving a positive outcome for the entire Frankston City community,” he said.

The Leader reported in October that a closed meeting of the council had voted to spend about $345,000 on modifications including alterations to windows on the lower level of the building.
