An award-winning Melbourne cop strangled his wife in bed and called her a “f----g c--t” and a pig during a shocking early morning bedroom attack.

Disgraced former Senior Sergeant Frank Bodor has avoided jail for choking his wife and calling her a f----g c--t.

A decorated cop who strangled his wife in bed and called her a f----g c--t and a pig told her “everyone knew him” when she threatened to report him to Victoria Police.

Frank Bodor only stopped his violent attack when he spotted blood on his face as his wife hung off the side of the bed while he strangled her.

Harrowing details of the offending in the early hours of December 30, 2020 were read out in the County Court on Monday when Bodor, a former senior sergeant, was sentenced to an 18-month community corrections order.

Bodor received awards and commendations for his work that included finding a lost child, supervising and managing investigations into a fatal house fire, and running an alcohol diversion program.

Judge Frances Hogan said when Bodor’s wife threatened to report him to police during the attack, he replied “Oh that’s good, everyone knows me”, and called her a domestic violence b---h.

She said the victim recorded the attack on her phone as she knew something was going to happen which made her “very scared”.

The drama started when Bodor came into the bedroom, turned up the TV, and used a remote control to lift her side of the bed despite knowing she had a back injury.

The victim told the jury that Bodor was sitting with his legs over her waist and used his body weight to lean down on her neck with his forearm while she repeatedly told him to get off.

She tried to call one of her sons and felt like she was about to pass out, the court heard.

He told her to “get the f--k out of here”, “a useless fat c--t”, “crazy, psycho” and “a f---ing pig”.

When his wife said it was him who put her in a headlock, Bodor responded “Where’s the blood, dips--t?”

Bodor told police his wife was suffering from mental health issues, that she would attack him and he had to hold his arms to stop her.

He claimed that when he went into the bedroom, she started abusing and punching him.

“It is disgraceful, grossly disrespectful and humiliating conduct. It is appalling that such conduct should occur to a person in her own bed, in her own home, by her own husband,” Judge Hogan said.

“It is concerning that a police officer, who one of your character witnesses described as having shown compassion and care to the victims of violence and one who knew the dangers of attempted strangulation, should have committed such an assault.”

She said Bodor texting his son following the attack to say his wife was having a mental breakdown demonstrated an attitude of cunning manipulation and disregard for his wife.

Bodor was ordered to pay $5000 to Safe Steps Family Violence Response Centre.
