A man was allegedly stabbed to death in the doorway of a notorious halfway house in Melbourne south eastern suburbs.

Emergency services were called to a property on Monteith Crescent in Endeavour Hills at 2pm on Sunday.

Police have charged a 55-year-old man over the alleged stabbing.

The Herald Sun understands the alleged victim, 39, had been living at the halfway house, which receives referrals from homeless support agencies in the south east, for about 18 months.

Residents unwilling to be named said the men were neighbours.

“They argued all the time,” they said.

A dispute allegedly broke out in the afternoon, multiple sources said, and the alleged victim was allegedly stabbed to death in the doorway of the house.

The carpet at the entrance had been ripped up and removed as of Monday morning.

One resident, speaking anonymously, said they felt “incredibly unsafe” at Mossgiel House, and told the Herald Sun it was the fifth death there in four years.

The landlord said police had seized CCTV vision on Sunday night and interviewed the residents.

The Herald Sun understands that one resident had sought to have the victim removed more than once as a consequence of psychiatric concerns.

It’s understood about 30 men live at Mossgiel House.
