A teenager from Mentone has been caught up in a police sting at her boyfriend’s home, exposing her as a drug trafficker.

Ebony Phelps, 18, pleaded guilty in the Moorabbin Magistrates’ Court on January 20 to one charge of cannabis trafficking.

The court heard Phelps had been staying with her boyfriend at his Mentone home in May last year when a 7am police sting uncovered traffickable amounts of marijuana and $4150 in cash.

Investigators found bags of cannabis strewn throughout the property, belonging to both Phelps and her boyfriend, the court heard.

The early morning search turned up further evidence of trafficking when cops searched through Phelps’s phone, after which she was arrested.

The court heard packaged cannabis was strewn throughout a Mentone property where Phelps was staying.

In court on Monday, Phelps’s lawyer told Magistrate David Starvaggi she had been suffering with borderline personality disorder and anorexia as well as drug addiction at the time of her offending.

Mr Starvaggi warned the teenager to turn her life around.

“You’re 18 — you’re an extraordinarily young lady to be in a place like this and to be facing drug trafficking charges," he said.

“Don't come back here on trafficking charges, you’ll find yourself in prison very swiftly.”

Phelps was fined $500 without conviction.
