A former travel agent who cruised around Frankston’s CBD with a stash of cocaine stuffed down his underpants as well as bags of cannabis in his boot has been jailed.
Iltaf Mosawi, 21, was sentenced to three months behind bars after he drove down Wells St with 10 times the quantity of trafficable cocaine and more than five times the trafficable amount of cannabis about 2.30am on June 6.
A glassy-eyed Mosawi, who appeared to be high at the time of his arrest, told police officers he didn’t have any drugs on him despite two joints being in plain sight in the driver’s console, Frankston Magistrates’ Court heard
“A drawstring bag containing cannabis was found in the boot and $3412 in his bumbag,” the prosecution said.
Seven small bags of cocaine were found stashed in Mosawi’s underpants, with police also confiscating his iPhone which he refused to supply the pin code for.
Mosawi’s lawyer said his client had recently got clean as he worked full-time for a travel agency, however fell back into “bad habits” after losing his job due to the coronavirus outbreak.
“Many people are affected by coronavirus, it doesn’t mean they turn to drugs,” Magistrate Timothy Gattuso said.
Mosawi, who was previously jailed for two days after trafficking cannabis last year, pleaded guilty to trafficking cannabis, possess cocaine and dealing with the proceeds of crime.
“This is 10 times the trafficable quantity of cocaine (and) five and a half times the trafficable quantity of cannabis,” Mr Gattuso said.
“You’re still a young person but that doesn’t excuse trafficking drugs, spreading them throughout the community and profiting off it.”
A total of 10 bags of cannabis — weighing 280g — were destroyed as well as 32g of cocaine and Mosawi’s mobile phone.
He was convicted and sentenced to three months behind bars minus 49 days already served in custody and was fined $250.
