A Cranbourne madman revived memories of the Bourke St massacre when he revved his engine and threatened to mow down pedestrians.

Jackson has been remanded after making threats to run over innocent people.
Jackson has been remanded after making threats to run over innocent people.

A maniac who told his corrections officer he was going to run over innocent people during an over his accommodation has been remanded in custody.

Dean Jackson rang the justice worker demanding he be moved out of the boarding house where he was living, telling the frightened woman he would cause chaos if he didn’t get his way.

The 32-year-old Cranbourne window cleaner pleaded guilty to threat to inflict serious injury, possess weapons and court order breach charges at the Frankston Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.

The court heard on June 3 this year Jackson phoned his corrections officer at the Cranbourne centre demanding to be urgently found a new home.

He said he was unhappy at the temporary place where he was staying as a fellow housemate had agitated him.

Jackson told the officer if she didn’t relocate him immediately he was going to “take lives” and “run over the 20 people in front of him”.

The woman heard Jackson’s car engine and told him to turn the ignition off, but he hung up.

She called police, who tracked Jackson to a Narre Warren carpark.

Jackson was arrested after a search of his vehicle uncovered a hatchet and a pruning saw.

He refused to say anything about the threats and said the tools were used for chopping wood and trimming trees.

At the time Jackson was serving a community corrections order for an alarming threat to behead people.

The prosecutor told the court the community was right to be very concerned about vehicle attack threats considering there had been two deadly incidents in Melbourne over the past few years.

Defence lawyer Amity Krieger said the threats were “empty”, and there was no one in the car park.

She said he was suffering mental health issues at the time and the accommodation concern “tipped him over the edge”.

She said this was his first time in custody and he had already served 55 days.

Magistrate Timothy Gattuso said he needed more information regarding Jackson’s mental health before he could decide how long he would be staying behind bars.

However, Mr Gattuso said it would be longer than the two months Jackson had already spent on remand.

“He has a limited history, but one that is very relevant,” Mr Gattuso said.

“He was on a CCO for something very similar.

“I need to be sure he doesn’t present a risk to the community.”

Jackson was remanded in custody and will face court again on September 17.
