A man has faced court over a stabbing in Melbourne’s southeast that left one person dead and another in hospital.

Fizullha Haroon, 38, appeared in Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Friday afternoon charged with murder and attempted murder over the death of a 48-year-old man and an attack on a 37-year-old man in Dandenong.

Police say they were called to a Pickett St property in Dandenong about 12.45am to find the man and his two alleged victims.

Paramedics treated the 48-year-old at the scene but he could not be revived, while the other man was taken to The Alfred hospital with non-life threatening injuries in a stable condition.

Police allege all the men knew each other.

Victoria Police also said the owners of the Pickett St property have had it approved for demolition in the near future.

Mr Haroon was remanded in custody until his next appearance on January 10 next year.

Homicide investigators on Friday visited the crime scene, as forensic officers combed the home and surrounds for evidence.

The owners of the house secured the property on Friday ahead of demolition, with local homelessness services helping those who have been staying at the property.

Police said they would conduct daily patrols to the area.

As police sought clues on Friday, another arrest unfolded.

A woman wanted on an unrelated matter was cuffed and taken away by police from outside the Dandenong home mid morning.

She arrived at the scene with a male associate, who was seen rifling through a bag on the ground containing packets of mie goreng noodles and cigarettes.

Earlier a woman dressed in a unwashed oversized jumper was seen crying while standing on the police tape boundary.

MORE LAW AND ORDER

Detectives are looking at whether the fatal stabbing is connected to another stabbing that occurred at the property 24 hours earlier. A Dandenong man, 28, was transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

A police spokeswoman said: “Homicide Squad detectives are examining links between the address, the person they have in custody and an alleged stabbing at the same location a day earlier.”

A pile of rubbish and branches was located outside the home.

Forensic officers took multiple bags of evidence from the property.
