Dandenong Magistrates’ Court: Ricky Bayat Choeun refused bail after allegedly stealing cars
An Endeavour Hills painter has been charged with a string of vehicle thefts from across the southeastern suburbs, including striking at a construction site.

A man charged with a string of vehicle thefts across the southeastern suburbs allegedly told police, “it would be funny” to steal a car.
Ricky Bayat Choeun, 30, appeared in the Dandenong Magistrates’ Court on Friday where he unsuccessfully applied for bail after being slapped with a string of charges, including motor vehicle theft while being on two sets of bail
The painter from Endeavour Hills sat in the dock while police detailed to the court his alleged offending.
It is alleged on September 11 Mr Choeun broke into a house, grabbed a set of keys and drove off in the homeowner’s car.
The court heard police allegedly spotted Mr Choeun driving the car around Endeavour Hills.
They tracked the car back to a unit where they waited until
Mr Choeun left the unit allegedly with the keys to the stolen car on a lanyard around his neck
The court heard he denied driving the car and said he “didn’t know” how he had got to the unit in the first place.
The court also heard Mr Choeun had outstanding matters including allegedly stealing a car in January from a man who left the car running in his driveway.
Mr Choeun also allegedly stole a car from a construction worker when it was parked at a worksite.
The court heard Mr Choeun allegedly told police he “thought it would be funny” to take the car.
Mr Choeun is also accused of being in possession of meth, shoplifting and driving while suspended.
Mr Choeun told the court he should be granted bail because he “didn’t know what (he) was doing”.
Magistrate Michael King said Mr Choeun’s attitude didn’t indicate a willingness to change and refused his application for bail.
