A man accused of threatening to seriously harm the Prime Minister, allegedly targeting him in menacing social media posts will fight the charges in court.

Dale Byrne, 42, appeared at the Dandenong Magistrates’ Court on Thursday in relation to two Commonwealth charges.

Mr Byrne has been accused of threatening to cause serious harm to Anthony Albanese in February.

He has also been accused of using social media to post “menacing” comments towards Mr Albanese on X (formerly Twitter).

On Thursday, Mr Byrne’s lawyer Dimitri Osianlis asked the court to adjourn the matter for a contest mention.

Commonwealth prosecutor Carla Hawgood said there were no objections to the adjournment.

Mr Byrne’s bail was extended and with the accused set to return to court later this year.
