A Cranbourne woman thought she and her labrador pup were going to die when they were savagely mauled by two dogs.
Grace Amore and six-month-old Buddy were attacked by what she believes were a staffy and pit bull cross, on Averne St Cranbourne.
It was only the bravery of a stranger that saved them from more serious injuries, or worse.
Ms Amore, was walking Buddy on Wednesday July 10, about 5.30pm, when the two dogs charged towards her, and one viciously attacked Buddy.
Ms Amore said as she tried to save Buddy, who she feared would be killed, she fell to the ground and was attacked by the second dog.
“I was screaming at the top of my lungs, I felt numb — at one point I thought he had gauged out my eye as he was biting me all over my face and body,” she said.
“There was blood everywhere — I thought we were both dead.”
A nearby neighbour Ash Shumack, who heard loud “roaring screams”, jumped over his back fence and quickly came to their aid.
Mr Shumack kicked the dog attacking Ms Amore, which he said was moments away from “ripping at her neck”, and managed to push away the other dog, which was attacking Buddy.
Ms Amore said Buddy was rushed to Casey Pet Emergency, while she was taken to Casey Hospital and underwent immediate surgery.
“I was so traumatised because I didn’t think that Buddy would make it and that’s all I was thinking about.”
“He had deep wounds on his neck and needed fluid drained out. We’re just monitoring and praying he’ll get better.”
She said the whole ordeal had left her “shaken” as she was terrified the dogs were still on the loose.

“I’ve checked with the council and had no luck finding the owners or their dogs, but I’m begging the owner to do the right thing and come forward.
“These dogs need to come off our streets as I fear someone else could die if they’re attacked.”
Ms Amore said she wanted to thank Mr Shumack, Casey Hospital and the vet for their “heroic acts” and support.
“This ordeal has completely changed my life. I’m lucky to be alive and I hope no one else has to go through this.”
Casey Council manager safer communities Caroline Bell said the council was investigating the attack and was trying to locate the dogs involved.
“We urge anyone who witnessed the incident to contact our compliance team,” Ms Bell said.
