A Cranbourne woman is lucky to be alive after being bitten by a tiger snake.
Barry Goldsmith from Snake Catchers Victoria said he was called out to a house on Otooles Rd, Cranbourne on Sunday at 11pm, after Anne, last name withheld, stepped on a snake in her bedroom and was bitten on the foot.
“Anne stepped on something soft and squishy — when she looked down she saw a snake,” Mr Goldsmith said.
“The snake had managed to sneak in as she had left her door open.”
He said she was luckily bitten through her shoe or it could’ve been much worse.
“Upon arriving to her house she was really calm and was sitting out with people on her porch.
“But she was then taken to Frankston Hospital an hour later after feeling sick and was given antivenom.”
Mr Goldsmith said he caught the snake after he found it hiding under Anne’s computer table.
“We had a busy night last night as we were called out to catch three other snakes between 9 and 11pm, two in Cape Schanck and one in Shoreham.”
He said it was common for snakes to enter properties near wetland areas.
“If you see a snake in your home don’t step on it, hurt or kill it. It’s ideal not to panic and it’s always best to call a snake catcher.”
